Client: Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis
Location: St. Louis, MO
This project consisted of replacement of the approach spans to the Merchants Railroad Bridge over the Mississippi River in St. Louis Missouri. The new substructure piers were constructed underneath and around the existing structure while train traffic continued overhead. The new superstructure was fabricated, delivered, and assembled onsite prior to any reduction in train traffic. The superstructure was replaced during two track outages, enabling train traffic on one of the two tracks at all times throughout the project. These track outages were performed in a ten day period working in a 24-hour schedule. Both ten day track closures were completed ahead of schedule. After the superstructure replacement was complete, train traffic was restored to its standard schedule. Finally, the old substructure was removed from underneath the new bridge.
