Client: Illinois Department of Transportation
Location: Madison County, IL
This project consisted of seismic retrofit, bearing replacements, significant deck repairs and guardrail replacement. Work was complicated by river level fluctuations in the Mississippi River as well as the significant traffic on the structure. Much of the retrofitting work required access from the river. On the deck, work was performed at night to reduce the impact to traffic on this major river crossing serving the St. Louis area.
The scope of work included sand blasting and painting the structural steel at each expansion joint. This process exposed deterioration which needed to be addressed before the contract work could proceed. These issues were quickly addressed with the owner in order to keep the project on schedule.
