This project replaced the bridge which carries Telegraph Road over I-255 in St. Louis County. The existing structure was aged and narrow. First, the bridge was demolished. The interstate was rerouted over the existing ramps and the highway below was protected from falling debris. The demolition was interesting on this project because it was completed and open to traffic in one weekend. During construction of the new structure the structural steel erection was important. Large girders were required to span over all the interstate lanes. The steel erection took place during night hours where the traffic was stopped for brief periods to safely place each girder. The steel erection was carefully planned, calculated, and engineered to complete the project safely and efficiently. The completion of this project allowed Telegraph Road to be widened and added a bike and pedestrian lane.
