Estimator - Now Hiring

The Estimator will work with the Estimating Team preparing estimates and proposals for bid and budgeting purposes. This position could be responsible for quantity takeoffs; review of plans and specifications; developing unit and project cost; soliciting bids from subcontractors and suppliers; and coordinating with owners and engineers. It is preferred that the candidate has two to five years of experience in the civil construction industry, but this is not required.

Duties and qualification include but are not limited to:

  • Quantity takeoffs for all aspects of work
  • The ability to review and understand project plans and specifications
  • Develop unit prices from historical data, work processes, and job specific work items
  • Soliciting bids from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Communicate and coordinate with owner’s representatives, engineers, and designers
  • Site visits and pre-bid meetings
  • Strong attention to minor and major details, detail orientated
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external personnel
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent team player

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other related field
  • Two to five years of experience is preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Experience in AutoCAD and/or Primavera P6 is a plus

Project Manager

We are seeking a Project Manager who has experience in bridge work or similar civil construction projects.

General Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing all facets of the project. Must be able to fully wrap their arms around a project and own it.
  • Managing the project from start to finish. This includes: providing oversight to field superintendents, assuring safety and quality procedures are being followed, and schedules and cost budgets are being met.
  • Effectively managing change orders in a way that assures client satisfaction while maximizing project profitability.
  • Handling all aspects of contract negotiations with owners and sub-contractors.
  • Identifying innovative work methods to effectively reduce the cost of projects.
  • Creating the project budget and managing to assure that the targets are achieved.
  • Maintaining a close relationship with the project owner to assure that expectations are being met.
  • Managing subcontractors and material suppliers as necessary to effectively complete the project.
  • Analyzing and projecting job cost and profitability of the overall project.
  • Conducting regular field inspections of the projects as necessary.
  • Representing St. Louis Bridge in project management and customer meetings.

Employment Pre-requisites:

  • At least 5 years of project management experience in bridge or similar civil construction.
  • Passion for bridge building/challenging civil construction projects.
  • Experience in dealing directly with owners/clients providing full service in all aspects of the project.
  • Must be strong at developing budgets, analyzing costs and understanding financial results.
  • Good communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to adapt to the St. Louis Bridge processes and systems.
  • Must look professional and handle self as a professional at all times.
  • Engineering or construction management degree is a plus, but not required.
  • Should have excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • A working knowledge of P6 or similar project scheduling software.

Project Engineer

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our team who has a desire to learn, grow, and excel in the field of heavy construction, particularly that of bridges or similar heavy civil projects.

General Responsibilities Include

  • Understand all facets of the project. Must be able to wrap their arms around and fully own their specific project responsibilities.
  • Assist in managing the project from start to finish; assuring safety and quality procedures are being followed, and schedules and cost budgets are being met.
  • Recognize scope changes when and as they occur. Be able to communicate these changes effectively to the Project Team and provide front end tracking while maximizing profit and minimizing risk.
  • Identifying innovative work methods to effectively reduce the cost of projects.
  • Work within the project budget and manage to assure that the targets are achieved.
  • Perform first level invoice coding and approval.
  • Create and manage subcontractor pay estimates.
  • With the Project Superintendent, perform weekly quantity surveys, labor coding, and OR/UR labor projections.
  • Become proficient in our job cost accounting software, Viewpoint.
  • Become proficient in Primavera P6 critical path scheduling software.
  • Facilitate and maintain a close relationship with the project owner’s representative to assure that expectations are being met.
  • Managing subcontractors and material suppliers as necessary to effectively complete the project.
  • Assist the Project Manager in analyzing and projecting job cost and profitability of the overall project.
  • Conduct regular field inspections of the projects as necessary.
  • Periodically, representing St. Louis Bridge in project management and customer meetings, as required.
  • Implement and execute the Quality Control System for the project.

  • Civil Engineering or Construction Management Degree.
